Acupuncture & Alternative Medicine

At the Southwest Fertility Center for Men, Dr. Kuang supports the use of alternative medicine such as acupuncture to help optimize your reproductive potential. While we do not fully understand how alternative medicine works, Dr. Kuang who is of Chinese descent believes that there is much merit to Eastern Medicine that has worked for many cultures around the world for many centuries.

Acupuncture is a technique of inserting and manipulating tiny needles that are carefully placed at specific locations on the body called acupuncture points. Special combinations of these acupuncture points can have therapeutic effects on a person’s health, well-being and potentially fertility.

It has been challenging to determine by Western standards to what degree acupuncture has a positive effect on male fertility. Preliminary work with sperm and acupuncture from China, Italy, Israel & Germany suggests that infertile men who undergo acupuncture twice a week over a period of 5 weeks can demonstrate an improvement in the quality and quantity of sperm (Pei et al. Fertility & Sterility, 84:141-7, 2005; Siterman et al. Andrologia 2000 Jan;32(1):31-9). Dr. Kuang will be happy to talk to you more about acupuncture and male fertility. While he is not a specialist in acupuncture, Dr. Kuang and his team will help guide you to those specialists who can help you better explore this option. Below are a couple local providers of acupuncture and alternative medicine. Dr. Kuang and Southwest Fertility Center for Men are in no way related to these care providers.
